Weekend Poll Top Three: Fans Want to See the Muppets Take on Wicked Witches, Mormons and More

As the Muppets returned to the big screen for the first time in over a decade with their new self-titled film (which pulled in a healthy $42 million over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend), Broadway.com asked readers which currently running Broadway show they'd like to cast the puppet crew in. Continuing with the tradition of The Muppet Christmas Carol, Muppet Treasure Island and more, fans named shows with classic source materials among their top choices. Take a look at the results below.

1. Wicked - 17%
Kermit the Frog should have no trouble identifying with Wicked's misunderstood, green-skinned witch Elphaba. Kermit sang "Bein' Green," which contains the famous lyric "It's not easy being green" on Sesame Street's first season in 1970. The Muppets already have experience in the land of Oz due to the 2005 TV movie The Muppets' Wizard of Oz, which starred Miss Piggy as Glinda.


2. The Book of Mormon - 13%
This year's Tony-winning box office smash The Book of Mormon takes the runner-up spot. On South Park, The Book of Mormon composers Trey Parker and Matt Stone's long-running animated TV show, Cartman owns a stuffed animal named Clyde Frog, who highly resembles Kermit the Frog.


3. The Phantom of the Opera - 8%
In 1991, three years after The Phantom of the Opera made its Broadway debut, The Phantom of the Muppet Theater was published. The children's book shares several similarities with the Broadway musical (which is based on Gaston Leroux's classic novel), as mysterious mishaps nearly prevent the Muppets from putting on their show.
